These statistics apply the regional division of 1 January 2018 to the
whole time series.
Family type
Married couple without children
Without children refers to a couple that has never had children or whose children no longer live with
their parents. For data protection reasons, same-sex married couples and couples in registered
partnerships are classified in municipal tables together with opposite-sex married couples.
Married couple with children
Married couple with children includes not only couples with common children but also couples whose children
are not common. For data protection reasons, same-sex married couples and couples in registered partnerships
are classified in municipal tables together with opposite-sex married couples.
Cohabiting couple without children
Cohabiting couples are formed from persons of opposite sexes aged 18 or over without partners living
permanently in the same apartment if their age difference is under 16 years and they are not
siblings. If the couple has a common child, the age limits do not apply. Persons of the same sex
living together are not inferred as a cohabiting couple.
Cohabiting couple with children
Cohabiting couple with children includes not only couples with common children but also couples whose children are not common.
