Description
Quality description
These statistics apply the regional division of 1 January 2018 to the
whole time series. Data for annexed municipalities have been combined.
Family type
Families are grouped into the following types:
- married couple without children, opposite sexes
- married couple without children, same sex
- cohabiting couple without children, opposite sexes
- married couple with children, opposite sexes
- married couple with children, same sex
- cohabiting couple with children, opposite sexes
- registered male couple without children
- registered male couple with children
- registered female couple without children
- registered female couple with children
- mother and children
- father and children
Without children refers to a couple that has never had children or whose children no longer live with their parents.
Married and cohabiting couple with children includes not only couples with common children but also couples whose
children are not common. For data protection reasons, same-sex married couples and couples in registered partnerships
are classified in municipal tables together with opposite-sex married couples.
Family type
Married couple without children
Starting from 2002, also includes registered partnerships without children and from 2017
also same-sex married couples without children.
Married couple with children
Starting from 2002, also includes registered partnerships with children and from 2017
also same-sex married couples with children.
Cohabiting couple without children
Cohabiting couples are formed from persons of opposite sexes aged 18 or over without partners living
permanently in the same apartment if their age difference is under 16 years and they are not
siblings. If the couple has a common child, the age limits do not apply. Persons of the same sex
living together are not inferred as a cohabiting couple.
